I am a sociologist, author, and educator with research interests that span topics of motherhood, spirituality, pedagogy, and alternative health. My writing is grounded at an intersection between lived experience and theoretical reflection.
My first book, Islam and Motherhood: Discourses of Faith and Identity, examines the spiritual and emotional labor of Muslim mothers as they navigate religious identity, caregiving, and cultural expectations. I also have a textbook under contract, Borders and Belonging: Sociological Perspectives on Race, Ethnicity, and the Making of America, which offers a more expansive and nuanced approach to the study of racial and ethnic minorities. Departing from census-based categorizations, the book includes stand-alone chapters on groups often overlooked, misrepresented, or marginalized.
In the classroom, I am a teaching-focused scholar committed to inclusive, student-driven learning. I design courses that foster critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, with an emphasis on applied sociology and reflexive practice.
I also welcome opportunities for inter-campus collaboration and am especially interested in connecting classrooms across institutions to foster dialogue and shared inquiry.
